Tours for Individuals and Small Groups Needing Transportation

If you've ever wondered what happens to your garbage and recyclables when they leave the curb, come visit the Central Landfill in Johnston and see for yourself! Our educators will guide you around the landfill complex to see firsthand where your garbage, leaf and yard debris, and recycling go. You will also tour the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), where you will see our staff process the recyclable material from your blue and green bin.
Trip Details
RIRRC offers tours for individuals and small groups needing transportation one Saturday and one Wednesday each month from April to October. Have your own transportation? Click here. There is no charge for the tours, and they are first come, first served. RIRRC will provide a tour vehicle for up to 24 people on these designated dates. Individuals and small groups may be combined. Small groups with 10 or more members can request to be given a private tour, depending on availability. Tours of our Materials Recycling Facility only are available for those carpooling groups without a bus or a van. Please indicate “MRF only tour” in the comments section below.
Schedule a Trip
Tours must be scheduled two weeks in advance. To schedule a tour, please fill out the form below. A representative from RIRRC will contact you to confirm your request. Please keep in mind that your tour is not considered "booked" until you receive confirmation from our staff. If applicable, please remember to bring a copy of your roster with you on the day of your visit. Group leaders arriving without a roster will need to fill out a form by hand.
