You're Invited to RIRRC's Open House!

Have a burning question about what goes on at the Central Landfill? Pining to take a tour to the top of it?  Now’s your chance to have some face time with waste management experts at Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC).  On Saturday, July 31, RIRRC will host an open house from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 65 Shun Pike in Johnston.

What You'll See:

• Where your trash goes
•  Where your recyclables go
•  RI's largest composting facility
•  RI's only landfill gas to energy plant
• The view from the top of the landfill (weather permitting)

• Sorted recyclables ready for shipment

What You'll Be Able to Do:

• Take a guided bus tour of RI's largest landfill
• Visit RI's only Materials Recycling Facility, one of New England's biggest
• Speak with Engineering and Recycling experts about our operations and programs

• Speak with Mike OConnell, RIRRC Executive Director about policy, the future of solid waste management in RI, future plans for recycling, and more!

What You'll Leave With:

• Brochures and Flyers with loads of recycling, waste prevention, and disposal information
• A new understanding of your role in finding new solutions to managing RI's solid waste

• Amazing memories of your trip to the top of the hill! (not quite RI's highest point, but close!)

The Tour:

If you'd like to take the 30-40 minute guided tour, you must reserve your spot in advance. Seats are limited, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 942-1430 ext. 241 or email info@rirrc.org with your name, the names of the people in your group, and your contact information (either phone number or email). Once your spot is confirmed by a RIRRC representative, you'll be ready to roll!

• Available tour times are: 8:15, 8:45, 9:15, 9:45, and 10:15. When you contact us, please state your first and second choice, and be aware that depending on the popularity of the time chosen, your first choice may no longer be available.
• Tours will be on either a School Bus (seating 50) or on our Max Bus (seating 24), depending on group size.
• Each tour will be led by a RIRRC Recycling Educator.
• Tours will start with the landfill, and finish at the Materials Recycling Facility. Tour participants will disembark at the recycling facility for the recycling portion of the tour. Upon completion of the recycling portion, the buses will take participants back to their cars at the RIRRC headquarters.
• Questions may be asked at any point in the tour.
